Coyotes
I often go to the woods just to toddle around and take pictures. Out of stupidity today I trotted there with my two dogs,Zoey and Ava. Ava is a rotty mix and finds it fun to hunt more than play, she is also older as well. Zoe is the 'dumbdy-dumb' sort of pup. She loves to romp and stumble around, getting into trouble whenever possible. Today she jumped across the stream as usual and I yelled at her as usual to get her butt back across to me. And,as usual, she didn't listen but kept romping about. So,being completely stupid,I tried to walk across the thin layer of frozen water that layered a gushing amount of more water. My weight broke through and my foot sank deep into the freezing water that gushed brown. I yelped in suprise and tried to scramble back up the side of the hill but broke more ice. Zoe and Ava had dwindled off,not having a care in the world as I wanted to scream with fright. I caught hold of a small branch and tugged myself upwards, staring down at the water and chattering my teeth as my foot felt like and ice cube. Scrambled on the snow above I fell onto my butt and sat there, breathing harshly. Zoe appeared across the stream with her tail wagging furiously and romped across the freezing cold water, being a husky it didn't matter much. Ava just kept walking and sniffing around on the other side. I patted Zoe on the head when she came towards me and suddenly froze. Across the stream stood two Coyotes, there puffy ears twitching as they watched me with knowing eyes. I stared back as Zoe barked and yipped, warning with her puny voice. I hit her once on the skull and growled "Shut up.". She didn't stop so I ignored her. They slinked forward with magesty and I wanted so badly to meet them. One had a fluffy tail that hung from his spine but the other had a bare tail,as though a bear had mauled the fur rite off. I cocked my head curiously and smiled, begging them to come forward. They didn't get to come and closer though as Ava darted forward and chased them off. I cursed her rapidly and watched them slink away with there heads low as if prowling. Scared that they might not return I pleaded to god to help them come back. On the concrete bridge a few paces away one stood and gazed at me,his head high with glory. By now my freezing foot was the least of my problems. Tying Zoey to a tree with her lead I slowly walked through the brush but the coyote saw Ava coming and slowly loped into the corn field. The second one had already decided I was a waist of time and was far in front. A barked at Ava to leave them alone but she wouldn't and stood her ground as we came to the end of the woods and onto the trail that lead onto the flat concrete bridge. I stepped into the cornfield and stared at there departing figures. With desperation I started to click my tongue, the one who had stared at me before stopped and turned his head. He watched me for a curious amount of time before he saw Ava and turned around to pace steadily forward. I grew more fearful that I would not be able to see them again and started to run, there figures already departed behind a small rise in the ground. Ava ran in front of me as I cursed at her to leave. When we came to the hill there was no sign of any animals besides the melancholy me and Ava pushing her nose into the dirt. I waited for a long period of time, listening to Zoe's yelping and yowling far behind me and stuck my hands in my large jacket. Turning I walked back, looking at the footprints that I had made when I had ran,the massive prints sunk deep into the ground. My eye caught a very small print and I knew it was the coyotes. His print was just a skiff on the snow when he ran and mine was a bumbling giants pathetic clamber. It made me depressed so I kicked the many dead stalks that spurted from the frozen earth that had been left behind from farmer after farmer.
